Uploading and Setting Up Floor Plans

Step-by-step guide for uploading floor plans, setting up the project hierarchy, and creating construction section masks.

Overview

The Floor Plans section allows you to upload floor plans directly into oculai and link them to the schedule. Once construction section masks have been created, they are automatically synchronized with the schedule — the current construction progress is thus directly visible in the plan.

The building and floor/level structure can be fully set up within the system itself, without coordination with oculai. Teams thus have the flexibility to map the project hierarchy exactly as it exists on the construction site.

Uploading floor plans

Recommended plan types
Formwork plans or execution plans with clearly readable dimensions, as these allow precise calibration of the scale.

Plans can be dragged and dropped into the white field or selected via the file browser by clicking — individually or as a group.

❕ If a plan contains multiple scales — e.g. a floor plan with integrated detail sections — the system automatically selects the larger scale. Always check the scale after uploading and correct it manually if necessary.

Setting up a plan

After uploading, the Set up plan dialog opens automatically. Here you can rename the plan and optionally assign it to a building and floor/level structure.

Building

Building tags are especially relevant for projects with multiple buildings. Use + New to create and name a new building.

Floor/Level

Plans that depict the same floor/level, even if they are split across multiple sheets, should receive the same floor/level tag. Use + New to create a new floor/level.

Once all floor/level tags have been created and you want to adjust the order, the Sort toggle can be activated. The tags can then be arranged in the desired order by drag and drop. Name buildings and floors/levels exactly as they appear in the schedule — this greatly simplifies the later linking of construction sections to the schedule. Tags can be added or changed at any time afterwards.

❕ Assigning hierarchy tags is optional. Without tags the plan will be uploaded, but neither the floor/level navigation nor the construction section status display will be available — and construction section masks cannot be drawn.

Floor Plans overview

After setup, the Floor Plans overview appears with all uploaded plans as cards.

  • Additional plans can be added at any time via the Upload button at the top right.

  • When hovering over a plan card, a three-dot menu appears, through which the plan can be deleted or edited. In edit mode, the name as well as building and floor/level tags can be adjusted.

  • The Section status toggle at the top right shows all plans color-coded to indicate which construction sections have already started or been completed.

Opening and navigating a plan

Clicking on a plan card opens the plan in the detail view.

Navigation

At the top left there is a dropdown menu for switching between buildings and floors/levels. This is only available if floor/level tags have been assigned to the plans. Without tags, navigation is only possible via the arrow next to the plan name.

Sidebar

On the right side is the sidebar with the hierarchy tags of the plan and all created construction sections. Tags can be edited directly here or added afterwards. The sidebar can be shown and hidden via the icon at the top right.

Scale

The scale is automatically calibrated and displayed in the sidebar under Measurement tool. It can be deleted and manually reset if needed — select a known length in the plan and enter the actual value.

❕ Always check the scale after uploading. If a plan contains multiple scales (e.g. floor plan with integrated detail sections), the system selects the larger one — manual correction may be necessary.

Drawing construction section masks

Construction section masks can be created in two ways:

  • Via the mask icon in the toolbar at the bottom of the plan, or

  • via the + Add construction section button in the sidebar.

After activating the drawing tool, draw the area of the construction section by clicking the corner points. Press Enter to complete the shape, then a text field opens for naming the construction section.

💡 If a construction section recurs on multiple floors/levels (e.g. CS_1 on each floor/level), the name should be assigned identically each time. Once a name has been created, it appears in the dropdown and can be reused directly in further plans.

Editing masks

Clicking on an existing mask puts it into edit mode.

  • The corner points of the mask can be moved and adjusted.

  • The dark blue points between the corners allow adding new support points for more complex shapes.

  • In the displayed edit toolbar, the name can be changed and a color for the mask can be selected.

  • Using the color picker (eyedropper), individual color values can be entered to align the colors of the construction sections with the schedule or other planning tools.

  • The mask can be deleted via the trash icon in the toolbar.

Managing masks in the sidebar

All drawn construction sections appear in the sidebar with their respective area information as well as a total area of all sections.

  • The eye icon next to an entry can be used to show or hide a mask on the plan.

  • The three-dot menu next to each entry offers options to edit or delete.

Copying masks from another plan

If construction sections recur on multiple floors/levels at the same positions, they can be copied via Copy from another plan in the sidebar.

  1. Click Copy from another plan.

  2. Select the desired floor/level to copy from.

  3. Select the desired masks.

  4. Click Copy.

The masks are transferred to the current plan and can be further adjusted there if needed.

Construction section status display

The Section status toggle, both in the floor plans overview and directly in the open plan, shows the current construction status color-coded:

Green: Completed

Yellow: In progress

Gray: Not yet started

The display is automatically pulled from the linked schedule and updates according to the reported progress on the construction site. The status display is only available if construction section masks have been drawn and the plans are linked to the schedule.

Measurement tool

Next to the mask icon in the toolbar at the bottom of the plan is the measurement tool. This can be used to measure any distances and lengths directly in the plan. The unit can be adjusted in the sidebar under Measurement tool.

Export

Via the three-dot menu at the top right of the open plan, the plan can be exported. The export contains the drawn construction section masks as well as the area information in m² and is suitable for sharing with team members or project participants.
